Vlad Tepes was a Wallachian leader who was known for his inhumane methods of torture. Tepes was known for impaling his victims. Other methods of torture included cutting off noses and ears, mutilating sexual organs, scalping, skinning, exposure to the elements of wild animals, and burning alive.Vlad's reign in power was relatively short, but because of this infamous torture methods, vampire myths surrounded him. So, when he died, he was decapitated, as decapitation is one of the leading preventatives of vampirism.Vlad Dracula was the basis for Bram Stoker's Dracula.
