The Last Drop is a pub in the very centre of Edinburgh's historical Old Town, to be found at 74/78 The Grassmarket. It is a historical place of wooden beams, a friendly atmosphere, fine ales and quality food. It is a pub I have been visiting regularly for nigh on twenty years and as a consequence of which, you may rest assured that what follows comes very much from personal experience.

In order to answer those questions among others, we must delve into the dark and distant past and the times of the Holy Roman Empire...

Robert 'Rabbie' Burns was born on 25th January, 1759 in Alloway, Ayrshire, in a small cottage which is now an official museum. The occasion of his birthday continues to be celebrated around the globe, but most particularly here in Scotland, his homeland. He is of course best known as a poet and a lyricist but there was much more to the life of this remarkable man than those compositions which have undoubtedly become his greatest legacy...

It is no more than two hours' drive from the centre of Glasgow, yet creates the impression - surrounded by the lochs and the mountains as it is - of being in a magical land all of its own. This site is a guide to getting to Inveraray, what to do and see when you arrive there and how to enjoy the beauty of the town and its surrounding area to the full extent.

I was like many people. I feared death. It was always there, looming just a breath away. I had a beloved daughter who became deathly ill and I have a son who has had suicidal tendencies since the age of eight, so thoughts and fears of death haunted me almost every day. Although an avid reader, I, however, shyed away from books that spoke of dying. It was almost as if I didn't tread there, it would all go away.
