Christmas is a time a giving and sharing, but it also has turned into a time of spending our hard earned money. Although we want to give special, meaningful gifts to our friends and family, in this economy, we also have to be able to pay for food, and gasoline.
With some planning and some thought, we can let our family know that we love them this holiday season without breaking the bank.
Some gifts can be an investment into the value of your home, or a collectible keepsake that increases value over time.
There are also gifts that come from the heart, or that you can create yourself for less money, yet would be more meaningful to your loved ones.

Zazzle is a print on demand online store that allows customers to create their own unique designs from templates or completely from scratch. I love Zazzle because I can buy just one gift at a time that I create and have it ship directly to my out of town relatives and friends.
It is also a great place for designers and artists to have a gallery for little or no start up cost.
Zazzle and Squidoo seem to have been made for each other, with Squidoo providing a platform for Zazzle designers to get their work out to the public.
This lens is a gallery of Zazzle galleries, all created by people from around the world who have introduced their artwork on Squidoo.

There are lots of great comfort foods that don't involve meat, the most notable is macaroni and cheese. However, with healthy eating and vegetarian food becoming more of a way of life to many, it is great to know that vegetarian comfort food goes way past macaroni and cheese.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year. For me, it is a time to see my family in a relaxed atmosphere, for an entire weekend. And part of that atmosphere is created by the great meals that we eat.
I need to confess that I do have a bias related to Thanksgiving meals. First of all, I love turkey. We roast our turkey, and it is scrumptious--hot, juicy and full of flavor.

I am so very excited to become a Giant Squid. It is truly an honor and a privilege to be part of such a great group of people.
I have worked hard to get here, but I could not have gotten here without lots of mentoring, encouragement, and help from others in the Squidoo community. This lens is to thank everyone, and also to provide potential Giant Squids with the tools that I used to learn.

They have reduced a huge tuna to head and bones before the hooked fish could be landed. Yet most people who know anything about the squid-one of the sea's most bizarre creatures-assume it is some sort of octopus, because it has snaky arms and tentacles at the end of a bullet-shaped body. This is like comparing a tiger with an alley cat.

Amber is fossil tree resin, which is appreciated for its color and beauty. Good quality amber is used for the manufacture of ornamental objects and jewelery. Although not mineralized, it is often classified as a gemstone.
A common misconception is that amber is made of tree sap; it is not. Sap is the fluid that circulates through a plant's vascular system, while resin is the semi-solid amorphous organic substance secreted in pockets and canals through epithelial cells of the plant.

A couple of years ago, I was introduced to someone who baked biscotti. I loved the idea of the italian biscotti cookie that she was making, but thought I could do better. So I started to research biscotti cookie recipes.
What I learned was that there aren't a lot of biscotti recipes available and I wanted to try to bake more variations. So I started making up my own recipes by adding and subtracting different ingredients.

Every religion has its rituals and traditions, and that is true of Chanukah as well. In our family, we light the Chanukah candles each night of Chanukah, eat our dinner, then after dinner we play the game of dreidel.
Dreidel is a traditional Chanukah game that can be played by all members of the family, young to old. It is very simple to play and is a perfect fun way to celebrate the holiday, create family memories, and strengthen your children's Jewish identities.

Networking has become a buzzword over the last several years. There are networking events all over for business people. And we have all been introduced to the social networking online.
Networking is an essential skill for most business people, but especially for entrepreneurs. The strong association between the entrepreneur as a person and his or her business demands that entrepreneurs get out into the world and create and maintain business relationships.
Networking is not selling, so how can you tell the difference? What is it all about really?

Those of you who do not live in a climate that gets cold in the winter, are missing one of life's perfect joys, a cup of steaming hot cocoa in the icy cold weather.
The feeling of comfort and warmth from drinking a simple cup of steamy chocolate is something that truly must be experienced to understand.
Much of it stems from our linking warmth, chocolate, and food with our mothers as children, yet that doesn't take away the enjoyment.
So come with me as I take a journey through the world of comforting, tummy warming, soothing hot cocoa.

Visiting family this Thanksgiving? If so, you need to know that the rules for travel are changing rapidly, and every airline has different regulations.
The most important thing is to check with your airline when you make your reservation and again, right before you fly, to check for hidden fees and new rules of what can go onboard with you, and what needs to go in the luggage compartment.

Nothing shows a mother's love like a home-baked chocolate chip cookie. There is just something about the warm soft cookie, the melting gooey chocolate, and the smell of the just baked cookies that really warms your heart.
I still love to sit down with a delicious chocolate chip cookie warm right from the oven, and I have to admit that I have passed on the cookie love to my children.
This lens is an exploration of chocolate chip cookie recipes from the Original Tollhouse Cookie recipe by which all other chocolate chip cookie recipes are measured, to the Neiman Marcus chocolate chip cookie urban legend. Enjoy!

There once lived a man and his wife, who had long wished for a child, but in vain. Now there was at the back of their house a little window which overlooked a beautiful garden full of the finest vegetables and flowers; but there was a high wall all round it, and no one ventured into it, for it belonged to a witch of great might, and of whom all the world was afraid. One day that the wife was standing at the window, and looking into the garden, she saw a bed filled with the finest rampion; and it looked so fresh and green that she began to wish for some; and at length she longed for it greatly. This went on for days, and as she knew she could not get the rampion, she pined away, and grew pale and miserable. Then the man was uneasy, and asked, "What is the matter, dear wife?"

When I was a child, my mother would hand sew and personalize our Christmas stockings. She loved to add her personal touch to our Christmas stockings. She would sew a new one for each of us every year.
Mom would find special nice Christmas material and create a pattern to cut out for each stocking. Once they were finished, she would embroider each of our names onto a stocking.
Every Christmas morning, we would get up out of bed and run down to look at all of the cool Christmas gifts, the decorations on the tree, and then grab our personalized Christmas stocking that my mother had sewn and rummage through them. We would always have Disney toys, candy, socks, and other little stocking stuffers.
My father was Irish, so we would always have to be on the look out for little gag toys, or practical jokes in our stockings.
Nowadays, it is difficult for everyone to create their own stockings at home. It is lucky that handmade, personalized, and unique Christmas stockings can be purchased. This lens will help you find sources for these special Christmas stockings.
