Chinchillas are rabbit-sized rodents native to the Andes mountains in South America. Chinchillas are naturally skittish creatures and generally do not like to be held. They are nocturnal animals (being awake during the day and playing at nighttime), so they might not make the perfect pets for EVERY family. The average life span for the chinchilla is 15 - 18 years.
